How to Increase Blog Traffic: 10 Practical Tips for 2025

showing website traffic - to boost blog traffic for beginners

Blogs are one of the best marketing tools for businesses, and they can also help you earn passive income – but only if people find and read your articles. Below, I’ll share my go-to tips on how to increase blog traffic in 2025.

As an SEO Writer and Consultant with over five years of experience, I’ve written nearly two thousand blog articles. I write articles for various businesses and my own blog, many of which land on page one of Google for keywords with high search traffic, including the articles below:

If you have a blog and have noticed a drop in traffic, this is likely due to recent Google updates. Google makes several updates per year to prioritize ranking helpful, relevant content.

Whether you’ve had your blog awhile or you’re new to blogging and want to boost blog traffic, the following tips will help.

1. Identify and Understand Your Audience

For people to find and read your articles, they must feel like you’re speaking directly to them. This requires identifying and understanding your audience, which you can do by asking yourself the following:

  • What problem(s) do I help my clients/customers solve?

  • What goal(s) does my target audience have?

  • How can my offer(s) help my target audience?

  • What blog topics would this person be interested in reading about?

Once you know the answers to these questions, it’s easier to come up with topic ideas and write your blog article.

If you use social media or email marketing, you can also ask your audience what kind of blog articles they’d be interested in reading about. You might ask if there are any guides they would find helpful or topics they want more details about.

2. Share Helpful Content

Whether your website is new and you’re just getting started, or you’ve had it a while and your website traffic is dropping – Google’s Helpful Content System, now a part of its core ranking system, is likely playing a role.

While Google makes regular updates, they continue to encourage websites to create helpful, reliable, people-first content. In other words, to rank on Google and get organic website traffic, you need to write blog articles that genuinely help your readers.

The following tips can help you write helpful content:

  • Cover topics that your audience is actually searching Google for (I use Keysearch for keyword research; use code KSDISC for 20% off)

  • Answer any questions readers may have about the topic

  • As you write, ask yourself what the reader may want to know next

  • Share specific examples, personal experiences, and expert insights about the topic

  • Include images and other graphics that add value to the content (e.g., charts and summary graphics)

3. Write Easy-to-Read Articles

The average attention for people is 8.25 seconds, and 54% of adults read below a 6th-grade reading level. Therefore, your articles must be easy to read.

Even if you’re getting blog traffic, people may leave your articles because they’re not easy to read or skim. This indicates to Google that your content isn’t helpful and rankings will drop.

Although people have short attention spans, they still read blogs if the content is interesting and easy to consume.

To write blog easy-to-read articles:

  • Include headers and images to break up the content

  • Share lists and charts for skimmability

  • Write short sentences and paragraphs that are easy to digest

  • Use Grammarly when editing for readability suggestions

4. Implement an SEO Strategy

SEO or search engine optimization is a set of practices that help you rank on Google to reach more people and increase blog traffic. These strategies tell Google who you help and how, which increases your chances for ranking.

As an SEO writer and consultant who’s worked with over a hundred websites, I’ve seen just how beneficial an SEO-friendly website is for traffic.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by SEO, but writing helpful content for your audience is a large part of it.

The following strategies can help you boost your SEO:

  • Do keyword research - Use a tool like Keysearch (use code KSDISC for 20% off) to find keyword phrases. This ensures you’re writing on topics people are searching Google for. You’ll focus on one primary keyword in each article.

  • Use your keyword appropriately - Use your keyword where it makes sense in your content, including your title, headers, meta description, and alt text. Don’t pressure yourself to use your keyword a specific number of times. Instead, use it naturally where it best fits.

  • Include internal links - Incorporate relevant links to other pages on your website in your blog content to show Google you have a library of helpful content and to keep people on your site longer. As you publish new articles, you can go back to old ones and add links.

  • Get backlinks to your site - Backlinks are links to your site from other websites, and they show Google your content is valuable. You can get backlinks by sending Qwoted pitches and writing guest blog posts.

  • Connect your site to Google Search Console - Track your analytics and see how your blog is performing with Google Search Console. It’s free, simple to use, and can help you better understand what's working. You can also request that Google index your new article after publishing it.

Once you start implementing SEO, it can take time to see results, but most people see results within a few months. If you need support, feel free to explore my website SEO offers.

5. Increase Website Speed

Research shows a 0-4 second loading speed is ideal for conversion. In other words, if a user clicks on your blog and waits 5 seconds for it to load, they’ll likely bounce – or exit out.

You can use PageSpeed Insights to check your website speed and identify issues.

The following strategies can help you increase your loading speed:

  • Compress images before adding them to your blog using a free tool like TinyPNG

  • Don’t include more than about ten images and one video per page

  • Avoid displaying too many ads, and try not to include video ads

  • Reduce URL redirects, only creating them when necessary

6. Start an Email List

There are four billion daily email users, and this number is expected to increase to 4.6 billion by 2025. So why not use email marketing to reach more people and boost website traffic?

I highly recommend starting an email list if you haven’t yet. It’s been one of the best marketing strategies for my business and helps me increase website traffic.

I send one weekly email, but you might choose to send more or less. When you publish new articles, you can then share a snippet in your email and link the article for those who want to read more.

If you’re interested in an affordable and easy-to-use email marketing platform, try Flodesk. I’ve been using it for a few years and love the template options and flat rate pricing no matter how many subscribers you have.

7. Promote Your Articles on Social Media

While SEO is my primary traffic source and the service I offer, you can also increase blog traffic by promoting your articles on social media. This can be especially helpful if your blog is new and you’re working towards improving your SEO to rank on Google – as that can take time.

You can promote your articles on any social media platform you use, including:

When sharing blog articles on social media, you can share a snippet of the article with a link for those who want to read more. Here’s how I’ve done this with a LinkedIn post:

8. Be Consistent

Consistent blogging helps Google understand what your website is about and who to show it to on search engine results pages (SERPs).

Most people who blog say they need to publish several posts per month to see results. In my experience, two or more monthly articles is ideal if you want to boost blog traffic. That said, the best blogging frequency depends on your goals, niche, and bandwidth or budget.

My best tips for staying consistent with blogging include:

  • Schedule time for blogging - If you prioritize your blog and treat it like a job, you’re more likely to stick to it

  • Plan for the month or quarter ahead - At the start of each month or quarter, create a content calendar to include blog topics and goal publishing dates

  • Hire someone to help you - If you lack the time, energy, or desire to blog, you might hire support for all or some blogging tasks but need help editing, optimizing for SEO, and publishing. You can hire someone to help you.

9. Update Your Articles

Outdated content often doesn’t perform well. For example, if you wrote an article two years ago, but the user intent and/or your blogging skills have changed, it’s time for an update.

In my experience, as someone who blogs almost daily, updating can be a better use of time than writing new articles, especially if you’ve had your blog for a while.

Every quarter or so, check your blog analytics to see what content isn’t ranking or performing well. Then, plan for which articles need updating. If you need help with this, check out my blog auditing service.

When you update your articles, consider the following:

  • Is there a high-traffic SEO keyword phrase you can incorporate?

  • What does current ranking content for your keyword include that your article doesn’t?

  • What can you add to your article to make it more unique and helpful?

  • Does the content entirely cover the topic?

  • How can you make the content easier to read?

10. Use Google Search Console

Google Search Console for tracking blog performance

Google Search Console is a free tool you can connect your site to. It helps you track and improve your website SEO.

While there are many features on Google Search Console, some of its main features help you learn about:

  • Blog articles getting organic traffic - This helps you know what content to update or create more of

  • Search terms leading people to your site - This shows which topics your audience is interested in

  • Pages not indexed by Google – This tells you what pages you need to request indexing for or potentially update content

How to Increase Blog Traffic: FAQs

To help you further understand how to boost blog traffic, we’ll answer a few common questions.

How long does it take for a blog to get traffic?

Most blogs require at least a few blog articles before getting traffic. This can depend on your niche and how SEO-friendly your website is. A good rule of thumb is to publish at least two SEO-friendly articles for six months before expecting to see traffic.

How do I monetize my blog traffic?

Selling services or products and sharing affiliate links are the best ways to monetize blog traffic. Some bloggers also earn money via ad revenue, but recent Google updates have affected many blogs with ads, causing a drop in traffic and monetization.

What is good traffic for a new blog?

Even a few people visiting your blog a day is good for a new blog. Over time, you’ll ideally increase to a hundred or more daily blog visitors.

People who want to blog and earn ad revenue aim for 50K monthly visitors in order to use ad services like Mediavine. However, if you’re blogging for business to make more sales, you can successfully generate leads with far less traffic than this.

Is it hard to get blog traffic?

Although there are more than 600 million blogs on the internet, very few blogs prioritize high-quality, SEO-friendly content, making it less difficult than you think to get blog traffic.

Many people believe that without a high-authority site or a well-known brand, you can’t rank high on Google, but this simply isn’t true. I mostly work with small businesses, and many get hundreds of daily blog visitors, including my own website. However, you’ll need to prioritize your blogging efforts to see results that drive your desired results.

How to Increase Blog Traffic: Conclusion

I hope these tips have helped you understand how to boost blog traffic. Although writing articles and getting traffic takes time and effort, it’s well worth it if you want organic leads for long-term success.

Helpful, SEO-friendly content can help you show up on Google, reach your target audience, and generate strong leads.
